History and founding
WCT Group began as WCT Earthworks & Building Contractors Sdn Bhd, established on 14 January 1981, which later became WCT Berhad. The 2014 annual report describes founder Taing Kim Hwa as having led its change from a private earthworks contractor into a group with engineering, construction, property development and asset investment businesses. WCT Berhad listed on the Second Board of the then Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange in 1995. In November 2016 founders Taing Kim Hwa and Wong Sewe Wing sold their combined 19.67% stake to Dominion Nexus Sdn Bhd, controlled by Tan Sri Lim Siew Choon, who became executive chairman.
